Ground Squirrel in Grand Teton National Park
One of the more common animals in Grand Teton National Park that often goes overlooked (literally) is the ground squirrel. These critters are found virtually everywhere in the region, constantly scouring the ground for food. While most people are staring at the bison, bears or birds, these creatures are scurrying along the ground underneath going completely unnoticed. Many times though, you can see coyotes hunting them since they are, unfortunately for them, a quick and easy meal.
To get a decent shot of them, or with any other smaller, ground-based animal, it’s a good idea to get as low as possible. In this case, I was on my knees and elbows to get this ground squirrel out at the Gros Ventre Campground.
