Virgin River Gorge in Northwestern Arizona
This was taken all the way back in 2004. I hadn’t even had a camera for six months, but it was images like these that occasionally popped up that kept me yearning to understand how to make an image like this consistently. It was taken in the Virgin River Gorge along a 30 mile stretch of I-15 that passes through the northwest corner of Arizona between southern Nevada and southwestern Utah. A friend and I were on a three-week road trip that brought us from East Texas all the way up to Sitka, Alaska, both of us seeing everything west of Central Texas for the first time. Shortly after returning from that trip, I had no desire to live anywhere east of New Mexico and that still holds true today, as does my enjoyment from talking about that trip.
