Night Sky Over the Teton Mountains Panorama
One thing I was really wanting to do during the shorter days of the winter was to get some great night shots with the landscape covered in snow. Well winter came and went and now that the nights are (relatively) a bit more comfortable, the snow’s pretty much gone and spring is in full swing. Nevertheless, that didn’t stop me from heading out at 10:30pm once it was nearly completely dark to start seeing what would work and what wouldn’t for some night shots. My first attempt was near Moose, Wyoming in Grand Teton National Park and I wound up getting this panorama facing west. One thing I learned was that even at 10:45pm, the sky is still not completely dark when facing west in mid-late May. Also the bit of light pollution coming from the left on the other side of the Tetons are the towns of Victor and Driggs in Idaho. In the hi-res version of the file, exponentially more stars are visible as well as a few subtle but noticable shooting stars. Also in case you didn’t notice, that’s a bit of the Milky Way coming in from the right.
